Today was not so great. Not in the throw-people-out-the-window way, but in a I'm-tired-of-this-is-it-Friday way.
I'm tired in my brain, overwhelmed. The novelty has worn off, and the rest of the everlasting year seems like this giant, steep, and unfriendly mountain looming over me.
It wasn't the worst day ever. Or even the worst day this week. There were some decent points, I admit. We did have another great writing workshop today. They kept going and I had to make them stop after half an hour because we were late for something else. Also I had a yummy cupcake.
This week I have gotten some positive feedback about a lesson (which was a huge relief)(but not necessarily , and also some feedback that would make me take on even more things in the classroom for those kids who need it. And I'll tell you right now, I do not have the time or brainpower for it. I'm just about at the point where I can't keep track of everything and I feel like I'm losing my mind. I was at school for twelve hours again and it took an hour to get home. I can not keep doing that. Like I keep saying, sanity must come first.

This post is the opposite of your last one: down vs. up. A teacher's life is like that (which you already know). My advice, for what it's worth: Don't look too far ahead or you'll feel completely overwhelmed.

Man, do I know EXACTLY how you feel. I am having that kind of year too, and there's always something else that needs to be done! There's just not enough hours in the day! I guess we need to just accept that and not try to pack those hours in where they don't and can't belong!
Try to make a list of the things that need to be done now and things that can be done overtime.See what the students can help you with too. I used to have students come up after they ate lunch to help. But you have to check with your admin to see if it's allowed.
In elementary school, the text guides usually spell out the lesson, although I usually tweaked it. So I don't think you are having a problem there.
During your prep or lunch, go into some other classrooms and see what's up and how they are handling whatever is bothering you.
During the summer Ms. Eyre ran many posts advising teachers over at NYCEducator blog. If you have a chance go back and read those posts and the comments. They might come in handy.
If there is anything specific, please post it and we will all try to help.
How about this for a teachable moment...a girl (not my student) walks into my classroom and announces, "My nipples hurt!"
My only regret is that I wasn't in the room at the time. I was in meetings all day. My sub was floored.
