How To Be A Dork and Make Your Students Laugh

Tell them to write a procedure for entering the room and then act out their actions.

I walk to just outside the door and say, "Okay, what do I do first?"

"Enter the room!"

"Okay, what next?"

"Sit down!"

"Okay!" and I sit down on the floor right inside the door. Guffaws and giggles.

"NO! Go to your seat!"

"OH! Okay." Walk to my desk.

"NOW sit down."

"Alright!" I sit down on the floor, next to the chair. More giggles.

"NO! You have to pull out the chair and sit on it!"

"OH!! Okay. Got it. What now?"

"Go in your bookbag and..."

I look at them, bewildered, and say, "But how will I fit in it? It's so small...."

Guffaws and eyerolls.

"OPEN your book bag!"

"OH, I see!"

and so on.

It was good fun, I say. :)

LOL, I LOVE activities like this. Just did a similar one in a professional development about brushing your teeth.

So fun!

Happy Friday :)

I love these activities. I've done "how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich" with kindergarteners. Only, so many of them have peanut allergies, we've had to change it to "how to make a jelly and marshmallow fluff sandwich." It's always hilarious and fun.

yeah, I used two different examples of procedures for making a PB&J sandwich to show how scientific writing has to be precise, logical, and complete or it makes no sense. the kids liked it.
